190 State-Nominated Visa

190 State-Nominated Visa Overview

The 190 State-Nominated Skilled Migration Visa is suitable for applicants who have at least 60 points in the basic points test. By obtaining a nomination from a state, they can receive an additional 5 points in their EOI (Expression of Interest) score, reaching the required 65-point threshold. The 190 visa, like the 189 visa, is a permanent residency (PR) visa. The difference is that 189 visa holders can settle anywhere in Australia, while 190 visa holders must reside in the nominating state for the first two years after migration (cumulatively two years, with allowances for overseas travel or visits to other states).

When applying for a 190 visa, in addition to meeting the Department of Home Affairs’ basic requirements, applicants must also meet the additional conditions set by the state. Whether a state nomination can be obtained depends on various factors, such as whether the occupation is on the state’s occupation list and whether the applicant meets the specific state requirements (such as IELTS scores, work experience, job offers, or registration qualifications). Each state’s policies may change over time.
