TSS/482 Employer-Sponsored Work Visa Overview
The Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) 482 Employer-Sponsored Work Visa is a temporary work visa established by the Australian government to allow Australian businesses to hire skilled professionals or technical workers from overseas. The visa is divided into Short-Term, Medium-Term, and Labour Agreement Streams, with a maximum validity of up to 4 years.This visa aims to provide a fast and flexible solution to address short- to mid-term skill shortages in the Australian labor market. Applicants must be nominated and sponsored by an employer to work in Australia. Those who hold a Medium-Term 482 visa and work for their sponsoring employer for three years may become eligible to apply for permanent residency through the 186/187 Employer-Sponsored Permanent Visa. TSS/482 Employer-Sponsored Work Visa Application Requirements
For applicants applying under the Short-Term Stream of the TSS (482) Employer-Sponsored Work Visa, the following conditions apply:
- The applicant must be nominated by an eligible employer for a position listed on the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL).
- Applicants must have the necessary skills, qualifications, and work experience required for the nominated occupation.
- A minimum of IELTS 4.5 or equivalent is required for the Short-Term Stream. This may vary depending on the occupation.
- The visa is granted for up to 2 years, One-time renewal is allowed while the visa holder is still in Australia, for a maximum of an additional 2 years.
- Both the applicant and their family members must undergo and pass the health check and Character check.
- While holding the TSS (482) visa, applicants and their family members are required to have health insurance for the duration of their stay in Australia.
Requirements for Medium-Term Stream Applicants (TSS/482 Visa)
- The nominated position must be on one of the following lists: Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or Regional Occupation List (ROL);
- The visa applicant must have qualifications or work experience related to the nominated occupation.
- The visa applicant must have at least 2 years of relevant work experience.
- English requirement: An overall IELTS score of 5.0, with no individual band score lower than 5.0.
- The visa is valid for 4 years. After working for the nominated employer for 3 years, the applicant can apply for the 186/187 Permanent Residency Visa.
- The visa applicant and their family members must pass health and character checks, and must purchase health insurance while holding the 482 work visa.
