Northern Territory (NT)
Subclass 189 – Skilled Independent Visa
The 189 visa is a points-tested permanent residency visa that does not require state or territory nomination. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Age: Under 45 years old
- Skills Assessment: Hold a valid skills assessment for an occupation on the eligible skilled occupation list
- English Proficiency: IELTS minimum of 6.0 in each component or equivalent
- EOI Score: Achieve at least 65 points in the Expression of Interest (EOI) system
Since the 189 visa is highly competitive, applicants often require a much higher score to receive an invitation. As a result, many choose the 190 visa for state nomination benefits.
Subclass 190 – Skilled Nominated Visa (NT State Nomination)
The 190 visa requires state nomination from an Australian state or territory. The Northern Territory (NT) government offers nomination to eligible applicants, providing 5 additional points in the EOI system.
