300 Prospective Marriage Visa (Temporary) Overview
The 300 visa is a temporary visa sponsored by an eligible sponsor for their fiancé(e). It allows the applicant to travel to Australia to marry their fiancé(e). The wedding can take place in any country, but the marriage registration must be conducted in Australia. The visa is valid for nine months, after which the applicant can apply for the 820 temporary partner visa from within Australia, followed by the 801 permanent partner visa after two years.
300 Prospective Marriage Visa Eligibility
- The applicant must be at least 18 years old;
- Must meet health and character requirements;
- Must have met and personally known their fiancé(e);
- Must have plans to marry their fiancé(e);
- Must be sponsored by their fiancé(e);
- Must be in a heterosexual relationship (same-sex couples can apply for a partner visa based on a de facto relationship).
300 Prospective Marriage Visa Application Process
- Assessment of the applicant and sponsor’s circumstances;
- Collection of relationship evidence and preparation of visa application documents;
- Submission of the 300 Prospective Marriage Visa application;
- Visa grant;
- The applicant must enter Australia within the specified period to activate the visa;
- The applicant and sponsor must complete marriage registration in Australia or abroad;
- Submission of the 820 onshore partner visa application within the validity period of the 300 visa.

- 75% of applications: 16 months
- 90% of applications: 22 months

- Main applicant: AUD 7,715
- Additional applicant aged 18 or over: AUD 3,860
