Subclass 189 – Skilled Independent Visa

The 189 visa is a points-tested permanent residency visa that does not require state or territory nomination. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Age: Under 45 years old
  • Skills Assessment: Hold a valid skills assessment for an occupation on Australia’s Skilled Occupation List (SOL)
  • English Proficiency: IELTS minimum of 6.0 in each component or equivalent
  • EOI Score: Achieve at least 65 points in the Expression of Interest (EOI) system

Subclass 190 – Skilled Nominated Visa (Tasmania State Nomination)

The 190 visa is a state-nominated permanent residency visa, offering 5 additional points in the EOI system. Tasmania provides various pathways for nomination.

Tasmania 190 Visa Nomination Pathways

Tasmania offers multiple nomination pathways. Below are two of the most common ones:

  1. Tasmanian Graduate Pathway
    • Study Requirement: Must have completed at least 2 years of full-time study in Tasmania and obtained a recognized qualification.
    • Residency Requirement: Must have lived in Tasmania during the study period.
    • Occupation Requirement: The completed qualification should be related to the nominated occupation, which must be on Tasmania’s Skilled Occupation List (TSOL).
  2. Tasmanian Working Pathway
    • Employment Requirement: Must have been working full-time for at least 6 months in Tasmania before applying.
    • Occupation Requirement: The job must be on Tasmania’s Skilled Occupation List (TSOL).
    • Employer Requirement: The employer must have been operating legally in Tasmania for at least 12 months.

Application Process

  1. Submit an EOI: Lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect, selecting Tasmania as the preferred nomination state.
  2. Apply for State Nomination: Submit a state nomination application to the Tasmanian Government with required supporting documents.
  3. Receive Nomination: If approved, Tasmania will nominate the applicant.
  4. Apply for the Visa: After receiving the nomination, submit a visa application to the Australian Department of Home Affairs.
