A medical examination is an essential part of applying for an Australian visa.

 

This article takes Parramatta Bupa Physical examination Center as an example to introduce how to perform physical examination and related precautions.

Basic information of visa medical examination
Basic medical examinations include

Chest X-ray (502), Medical Examination (501), including urine test, blood pressure, height, weight, vision, etc

Cost of physical examination

$309.81 (includes bank card surcharge of $2.31), the fee will vary according to the applicant's medical examination.

The physical examination of the PR application includes an additional item

The HIV Blood Test (707) costs $47.90

Two additional medical examinations for medical workers or students

Hepatitis B (Hep B Test 708), and Hepatitis C (Hep C Test 716)

The cost for both tests is $55.30

Physical examination process:
Step 1: Obtain the HAP ID and Referral Letter

After submitting your visa, the USCIS system will ask you to complete a Medical History Information Declaration, which will automatically generate a Referral Letter with your HAP ID. After having the medical examination letter and the medical examination number, you can proceed to the second step and make an appointment for the medical examination.

Step 2: Schedule a physical

You can make an appointment through the following two ways (only 5 working days in advance)

① Online booking (need to fill in the payment information online, pay the medical examination fee)

② Telephone reservation (you can pay the examination fee with your bank card at the physical examination site)

Step 3: Prepare the necessary documents for the medical examination

Original current passport

Physical examination letter, showing HAP ID

If you wear glasses, bring glasses or contact lenses

Specialist reports on any condition

Step 4: Go to the designated hospital for a medical examination

You need to arrive at the physical examination site on time, the physical examination needs to reserve about 2 hours (including waiting and preparation time), 15 minutes later, the physical examination will be expired, and there is no refund! So be sure to arrive at the medical center on time!

* Be sure to check the hospital directions in advance, which can be navigated via Google Maps.

Physical examination center specific procedures

After entering the medical examination center, you need to show the original passport, medical examination letter and medical examination number. After confirming the information, you need to enter the waiting hall and wait.

After hearing your name, go to the small window, the staff will check some details (including your name, birthday, mobile phone number, email address, etc.), and ask you whether you plan to apply for permanent residence in the next six months to one year.

To take a picture, you need to expose your forehead and ears.

Sign a Client declaration in duplicate.

The staff will give you another packet with a medical examination form and brief instructions on the procedure.

The staff will ask you if you want a male/female doctor or both, because in the end the doctor can only wear the specified clothes during the examination, and those who mind can specify the gender of the doctor.

Follow the signs to the medical examination area.

After entering the medical examination area, the first thing is to check the information. The staff will give you a blue disposable top with a locker key.

Dress requirements: X-ray above the waist can only wear the specified blue shirt, the final doctor examination must wear underwear, other physical examination can choose to wear or not wear underwear.

There is a screen in the waiting area, which will report the number "XXXX please go to Room XX" (English, text and voice at the same time), pay attention not to miss it. After each check, you need to return to the waiting area and wait for the next report.

Physical examination result

About 5 days after the completion of the medical examination, your medical examination results will be sent directly to the immigration office, and you do not need to submit them yourself. If one of the indicators in the physical exam needs to be reviewed, the hospital will notify you to make an appointment with a specialist to complete additional tests.

Matters needing attention

If blood tests are required, eat normally without fasting

Admission to the medical examination Center is limited to individuals who require a medical examination and have a medical examination letter or their accompanying minors under the age of 18.

Girls also need to pay attention to the following:

If you are pregnant, you should call the medical Examination Centre between 8am and 6pm (Australian Eastern Standard Time) on 1300 794 919 to inform the medical examination Centre, pregnancy may affect the medical examination.

The medical examination can only be done 5 days after the end of the period

Medical history declaration precautions

The medical history declaration is a necessary step in the visa application, which is directly related to the physical examination program. Below, you will find out what the specific questions in the medical history declaration are.

Have you ever been diagnosed with Tuberculosis (TB)?  Have you ever had to take treatment for Tuberculosis (TB)?


Have you ever been in close contact at work or at home with a person known to have Tuberculosis?


Have you ever been in admitted to hospital and/or received medical treatment for an extended period for any reason  (including for a major operation or treatment of psychiatric illness)?

 

Do you suffer, or have you ever suffered, from mental health problems?

 

Have you ever been told you are HIV positive?

 

Do you have, or have you ever had, hepatitis, problems with your liver or yellowing of the skin?

 

Do you have or have you had cancer in the last 5 years?

 

Do you have high blood sugar/diabetes?

 

Do you have heart problems, including high blood pressure or a heart condition that you were born with?

 

Do you have a blood condition?

 

Do you have bladder or kidney problems?

 

Do you have a physical or intellectual disability that make it difficult for you to function independently (for example,  to move around or learn or work full-time)?


Do you need to take drugs or drink alcohol regularly?

 

Are you pregnant?

 

Are you taking prescribed pills or medication (excluding oral contraceptives,  over-counter medication and natural supplements)?  If yes, please list these.
