Temporary Residence to Permanent Residence category: applies to applicants who originally held a 457 visa and have been working for their current employer in their nominated occupation for more than two years, and the employer is willing to offer them a permanent position.

Direct application for Permanent Residence: applies to applicants who have never worked or have worked in Australia for a short time, or who plan to hold a 457 visa but do not meet the temporary residence to permanent residence category.

Labor Contract category: Applicable to applicants who are sponsored by their employers through labor agreements or regional immigration agreements. (Australian Government Chartered class, not suitable for ordinary applicants)

186 Visa application conditions

Under 45 years of age;

Be nominated by an approved employer in Australia;

Meet and pass the vocational assessment (some applicants may be exempted);

More than three years of relevant work experience (some applicants are exempt);

Achieve 4 Competent English scores of 6 in IELTS, valid for 3 years;

In good health;

No criminal record.

 

186 Visa application process

Employer nomination within Australia;

Identify nominated occupations based on the list of STSOL and MLTSSL occupations applicable to employer sponsorship;

Pass career assessment;

Preparing for IELTS;

The employer submits a nomination application to the Immigration Department;

Employer nomination is approved and visa application is submitted within 6 months;

Immigration Department telephone survey;

A physical examination;

Approved.

Note: For the direct application category, the difference between 186 and 187 is that in 186 the employer has to meet the training requirement, while in 187, there is no such requirement.

186 Employer-sponsored immigration process cycle
Employer nomination stage: about 6 months.

Visa application period: approximately 12-16 months.

 

186 Employer-sponsored immigrant visa application fee


When an employer applies for sponsorship status, there is no application fee, the employer only needs to pay the nomination fee: AU $540.00;

Visa application Fee:

Principal Applicant: AU $4,045.00

Subapplicants over 18 years of age: AU $2,025.00

Subapplicants under 18 years of age: AU $1,010.00

Language training Fee:

- 4 IELTS scores of 6 are required for the main applicant to apply directly for the 187 visa. If the principal applicant does not have an IELTS score score of 4.5 when submitting the visa, a language fee of AU$9,800.00 will be required before the visa is approved.

- Spouses or accompanying children aged 18 or above who do not achieve a total IELTS score of 4.5 are required to pay a language learning fee of AU $4,890.00 per person.
